Tour Description

This Hike is available as either a half day or full day tour and will run from June to August. We will start at Petrel Point Nature Reserve on the coast of Lake Huron, which is roughly 15 minutes outside of Wiarton. We will spent the morning exploring this area between Petrel Point and Oliphant, and will entail walking on well maintained boardwalks and trails, or along roadsides. The summer is a wonderful time to explore the Bruce, with a bounty of nesting birds, rare flowers and plants, snakes, turtles and more! Our hike will take to variety of habitats, including marshes, lakes and the rare freshwater coastal fen. We have the chance of encountering birds such as Black Tern, American Bittern, Scarlet Tanager, Osprey, Canada Warbler, Brewer's Blackbird and more! A day's outing could see well over 70 bird species. Throughout the day we will be offering identification pointers, discussing the natural history of the region and point out any interesting flora and fauna that we come across. We will try to ensure you get excellent views of all the wildlife the Bruce has to offer. This hike is accessible for those with physical challenges; the trails are well maintained and flat. We will spend the day birding at a slow and relaxed pace, taking frequent stops along the way. Bathrooms breaks are spaced throughout the day and are easily accessible. *Notes* - a few of the roads we will be driving on have potholes, so drive accordingly. -bring your own lunch, snacks, and water (keep hydrated!) -bring good walking footwear, sunscreen, and a hat. -a scope will be provided but feel free to bring your own!
